Have you ever traveled solo? ✈️☺️ I’ve Have you ever traveled solo? ✈️☺️

I’ve traveled solo quite a few times now and I have grown every single time. It has always been an extremely good and rewarding experience.

I won’t lie... I was nervous about traveling solo the first time. I was worried that I would get lonely or that it would be dangerous to be out there alone. Especially as a girl. But in reality, I didn’t have to worry about any of these matters.

Instead, traveling solo taught me that I am stronger, more confident, and more capable than I first thought. Being nervous about traveling solo is totally normal. But if you can calm your nerves and give it a try, it’s an extremely rewarding experience and I wish everybody would do it at least once in their life 🙏🏻

Not only has traveling solo taught me a lot about the world in general, but it has also taught me a lot about myself as well. It has taught me that I CAN take care of myself. Even in foreign countries where I don’t know anyone or speak the language.

Solo travel has undeniably made me a more confident and independent person. I know I can handle just about anything that gets thrown at me on the road and in life.

Hopefully, we can all travel again safely in 2021 and maybe some of you will even go on a solo trip 🤗

Happy New Year, Guys ✨🤍❄️⁣ ⁣ Is it ju Happy New Year, Guys ✨🤍❄️⁣
⁣
Is it just me or does this COVID-19-thing seem like the never-ending story? 😂Denmark is now on the highest alert and under lockdown again. I really hope things will get better towards spring. I am pretty sure it will 🌺 Though things aren’t exactly the way I want them, I keep being surprisingly positive about life. There are so many things that I am looking forward to, and I can’t wait to be able to pack my bag and travel again! I have a few destinations in mind this year and hopefully, it’s going to be possible very soon! ⁣
⁣
Remember that one small positive thought in the morning can change a whole day ☝🏻☺️ ⁣

How are you mindset this new year? 🙏🏻
Danish Christmas traditions 🇩🇰❄️⁣ ⁣ Danish Christmas traditions 🇩🇰❄️⁣
⁣
🎄Dancing around the Christmas tree: ⁣
⁣
In Denmark, we dance around the Christmas tree while holding hands and singing carols. This is done after dinner and before opening the presents. It is without a doubt one of the most important traditions this night, but might also be one of the more awkward ones 😂🎄 Of course this depends on the family, but in my family, it often ends up being an uncomfortable dance around the tree while trying not to get burned by the candles attached to the tree while trying to remember the old Christmas carols. Usually, it ends up being a lot of unfinished songs and a lot of humming. But I love it ☺️⁣
⁣
🎅🏻 Santa brings presents: ⁣
⁣
In Denmark, children believe that their presents are brought by Santa or as we call him 'Julemanden' (which can literally be translated into 'Christmas Man'). In Denmark, Santa clause walks through the front door. No magic chimneys or in-the-middle-of-the-night magic required. Also, he is typically one of the family members (uncle or granddad disguised). ⁣
⁣
🎁 We open Christmas gifts on the 24th:
⁣
After dancing around the Christmas tree it is finally time to unwrap the presents! The ritual of unwrapping the gifts in Denmark is a very slow gift séance. Especially if you are a big family! We carefully choose one presents at a time from underneath the Christmas tree, and then the rightful owner opens the present, while of course, everyone stares in intense anticipation. Smiling and looking pleased on commando is a good skill this night 😅⁣
⁣
Tell me one of your favorite Christmas traditions? ☺️🎄✨⁣

Today is Lucia Day 🕯✨ On December 13, Santa Today is Lucia Day 🕯✨

On December 13, Santa Lucia arrives, dressed in white to bring light to what is becoming a very dark land. Santa Lucia leads a procession of girls (now also boys) all dressed in white, and she has a crown of candles in her hair.

The day is celebrated all over Denmark each year.

The story of Santa Lucia is a sad story. Santa Lucia was a young Christian girl. In 304 A.D she was martyred and killed for her faith. The most common story about Santa Lucia is that she would secretly bring food to the persecuted Christians in Rome, who was secretly hiding in the catacombs under the city. Santa Lucia would wear candles on her head so she had both her hands free to carry as much as possible.

In old Scandinavian history, Saint Lucia night is known to be the longest night of the year. Before the conversion to Christianity, the Norse made huge bonfires to ward off any evil spirits 🔥

Do you celebrate Santa Lucia? 🕯

Failure Beer in Denmark ⁣🍺🇩🇰⁣ ⁣⁣ Failure Beer in Denmark ⁣🍺🇩🇰⁣
⁣⁣
If you make a mistake in Denmark, don't be surprised if someone tells you that you owe them a "Failure Beer"! 🍻 ⁣
⁣⁣
In Denmark, you’re supposed to be able to laugh at your own mistakes. Having a sense of humor about yourself is what the Danes call “self-irony”, which is a very important aspect of Danish society. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
In fact, we as Danes have a tradition called 'kvajebajer', which translates to failure beer. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Failure Beer is when a person makes a big mistake. Then that person can offer a 'failure beer' as a way of playfully admitting that he or she has done something stupid, and that way gets acceptance from the people involved. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Have you ever done something where you probably should have given a "failure Beer" to someone? And what did you do? 😂 🍺 ⁣

Instagram and its community 🙏🏻💕⁣ ⁣⁣ Instagram and its community 🙏🏻💕⁣ ⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
One of the great things about living in the time and technology age is that we can connect with almost anyone from anywhere in the world! 🌍👭⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Social Media has allowed us to connect and befriend people we may have never met in real life! We can now find and connect easily with like-minded people who have the same interest, dreams, and goals in life. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Instagram has introduced me to many amazing souls digital and in real life and I am finally not feeling alone in the world when it comes to my lifestyle 🙈📸✈️⁣
⁣⁣⁣
My choices in life have always been slightly different than most people around me. I am that weird girl who travels and never settles, that weird creative girl who run around with her camera all the time and takes photos of herself and blog, and that weird girl who doesn't chase a normal 9-5 job 🤷🏼‍♀️⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
I will most likely always be that weird girl, but at least now I have lovely weirdness all around me thanks to the Instagram community. Being that weird girl suddenly feels more normal 😇 ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
So thank you! 🙏🏻 ⁣Do you use Instagram to create a community as well? 😃 ⁣

Saying goodbye to fall and hello to winter ❄️🍂⁣
⁣
Danes love to talk about the weather! It is probably because we are never really happy about it 😂☀️🌧
⁣
When it rains we think it’s annoying. After all, we get wet and our plans have to change. But when it’s dry weather, we complain that it’s been dry for too long and that our fields dry out. If it’s snowing we will complain that it’s getting difficult to get around and that it’s too cold. But if it doesn’t snow we will complain and say it isn’t a real winter. ⁣
⁣
It’s easy to say that Danes loves to talk about the weather and that our opinion changes a lot according to our mood 😆⁣
⁣
Danes are vikings though. So even though we like to complain a little about the weather, we do have a saying: “There is no bad weather. Only bad clothing”. ⁣
⁣
Do you agree with our saying? ☺️ ⁣

Go shawty, It’s my birthday 🥳 🎂 ⁣ ⁣ He Go shawty, It’s my birthday 🥳 🎂 ⁣
⁣
Here are some funny Danish birthday traditions 🇩🇰
⁣
First of all, according to Danish tradition, you’re responsible for the weather on your birthday! If it is a blue sky and blinding sunshine, you have done well this year. But if you’ve been bad, expect grey drizzle, cold wind and smaller gifts. Yup! Danes will blame you for the horrible weather! 🌧 ☀️ ⁣
⁣
Secondly, if you are still unmarried at the age of 25, you will be covered in tons of cinnamon by your loved ones. On the other hand, If you’re still single by 30, well, then you graduate up the spice rack to pepper, where friends and family build a giant pepper mill in your honour. Why? Because, tradition! 😜⁣
⁣
The best one is also the most macabre one! We celebrate our birthday by cutting of the cake man’s throat! The cake man (or woman) is a little pastry person decorated with candy! We slice the head of in chorus of screams. It’s like a pastry-themed slasher movie 😂🔪 🍰 ⁣
⁣
Do you have any funny birthday traditions where you are from? 🥳🎂⁣

Have you ever heard of “The Law of Jante”🤷🏼‍♀️📜 ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The Law of Jante is a set of unspoken social norms here in Scandinavia and is very different from the US. In Scandinavia there is a cultural tendency to favor not standing out, and instead to focus on helping the group to succeed rather than insisting on always being front and center. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Law of Jante is a list of 10 old rules that is still prevalent in the Danish culture today. The rules are more or less about how you should never think you are better than anyone else and the happy acceptance of being just average 🙊⁣⁣
⁣⁣
These are some of the rules: ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
☝🏻You’re not to think you are anything special.⁣⁣
☝🏻 You’re not to think you are smarter than we are.⁣⁣
☝🏻 You’re not to think you are more important than we are.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Danes value equality and community above all. No one is better. Our children learn these set of rules very early in life (indirectly). There is for example no elite education or any gifted or advanced programs in the Danish educational system. The focus is on the child’s social life. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
You might not see the concept of Jante straight away, but if you spend some time in Denmark you’ll start to see it. You’ll see that Danes have less individuality in for example our homes, decorations, and clothing choices. You’ll also experience the fact that Danes do not like bragging or people who talk highly of themselves or their achievements. ⁣
⁣⁣
For me the negative part about the Jante Law is that it can be hard to be different in Denmark due to these social sets. You might quickly be judged a little if you are out of the norm. In reality, though, Danes don’t live by these strict sets of commands all the time and it isn’t all that black and white.
⁣
Do you hate it or love it? 😂 ⁣

⁣
In Denmark, bicycling is one of the primary forms of transportation. People bicycle in all types of weather and at all times of day. Snow on the ground or temperature below zero won't stop people from biking!
⁣
Life in Copenhagen is lived in the saddle of a bicycle. Copenhagen is the most cycle-friendly city in the world. There are more bikes than people and five times as many bicycles as cars. We truly love our bikes ☺️ 🚴⁣

If you ever visit Copenhagen you should definitely explore the city on two wheels! ⁣
